The Android Maker

The book, The Android Maker (TAM) has earned four "WOW"s and an "AWESOME" by a reviewer and is now in its second edition. This chronicle was written as part of developing my Android Making Taxonomy.

BE WARNED! I used an aspect to develop this story that may seem to some as being a bit "off color," "improper," or even taboo. That is too bad for them. Any one so upset is their problem for there is no moral, biblical, or any other legitimate injunction or indictment against that cultural facet! The Scriptural facts have been proved to me since my last edit of TAM's source files so it needs to be revised to reflect those truths; as of February 18, 1999. I deemed using this most intriguing character enhancing factor as necessary to develop an important person in the background of the story.

My "dead tree" edition is 238 pages long, Courier 10 pitch, single spaced, 65 character line. Pages 77 through 178 are congruent to the Android Makers Handbook processes. This means that ((179 - 77)/238) for about 42.9% of this book could be somewhat dry reading as a novel. However, according to my reviewer, this was quite captivating. It was special for it did convince her that an artificial human companion can be made in a few years. Quite powerful for a novel. It is one thing to "poof" and say it is done as in conventional fiction with androids: It is most authoritative when I have described how an especial android is made.

To give you a taste of this account and to put a little bit of substance into this web site, this Android Making Mini-Treatise (made about 22K HTML, the red text is new to update my copy) is sourced from the WordPerfect 5.1 "SubDoc" file used in the book itself. As such, it may appear a bit different than the standard pages composed for this site: It lost some of its formatting during the conversion to HTML from WordPerfect's document. You will need to use your browser's [Back] button to back out for there are no links in the source document file. This parcel is pages 15 through 23 of my personal copy.

In this brief, the potential issue of android making being an act of idolatry is addressed. It has some definitions, applicable passages from the Bible, fictional androids, and a bit about the state of the art.

Now that I have convinced you it is the greatest tome since Homer's Iliad or Frank Herbert's Dune; I make no pretense to it being greater than The Holy Scriptures, how do you get your copy? Unlike other .com sites, I am not set up for credit card orders. Credit card based web sales are more like phone and mail order sales because there is not the simultaneous or immediate tendering of payment and delivery of goods.

In order to make a good story, I have wrote this tale and it is a bit personal and intimate. Also, for the work involved, I want to protect my intellectual property. Some may dispute novels as being "intellectual" property, but not for copyright. So, I have with purpose made getting a copy more adventuresome. I will not accept an immediate order: You need assurances that you will get what you paid for and I need to be confident I am not sending a deliverable out to a black hole and being stiffed for my price. I have been stiffed for my work and it is a damn unpleasant to enraging event.

Therefore, you need to start with a query and the "mailto:" protocol at the bottom of this page is a good place to start. Do not be disquieted that the "mailto:" does not go to something like sales@theandroidmaker.com for that address is not set up yet. All e-mail comes to me at hatfield@nwinternet.com for the foreseeable future. That will begin the dialog for acceptance of your order.

Each copy is printed only when an order is accepted. Each copy then has the most up to date "peaks-n-tweaks." I print each book copy through my LASER printer and they are manually duplexed, that is, printed on both sides of the paper like a normal book. Then I punch the pages for loose leaf binding. In addition to the number of pages mentioned previously, there are binder inserts, title pages, and a table of contents. If you are interested, an index can be added.

It is not unexpected or outrageous to expect to pay about US$200 for a single copy of a private technical report less extensive than TAM. That does not include the cost of the respective investigation for that was borne by the initial contractor. In a like manner, I am the initial contractor to produce TAM and you are merely buying a copy of the investigation I am invested.

Now we are getting towards the price ... the bottom line! For the standard price of US $85.00 plus shipping, I print for you the leaves for clear cover binder inserts; including for the spine; and the loose leaf pages of the story. If you prefer to use some other binding process, I can omit the punching. It is understood that this does not include the binder or index. You can usually get a view binder locally at a better price than I would have to pass on for buying it retail. You could then get a slant ring or standard "D" ring and any other option you please.

The index is not usually a popular item for who but me who must maintain the source can really get much use for it. It is tedious to add so I really can not for less than an additional US $15. If you prefer me to bind it for you, I will need to know what you desire to give you a quote.

Want to contribute, comment, etc.? Write me!... (Please put "TAM" in the subject or early in the body of your message so that I can relate your mail. I am inventing such a tree that the topic of some mail has been vague. Sometimes I can use "indirections to find directions out," but I am not that skilled.)
