Android Makers Encyclopaedia: R

Here are the few specimen entries for the Android Makers Encyclopedia "R" topics:

Radius, a "Short, Long,..." or "Flat" bone, (L&R) needs a round surface out, that is felt around the wrist. This is the shorter of the radius and ulna (forearm) set. See Gray, page 155 for more details of human anatomy.

Ramifications of a Viable, Presentable Android are in t hree basic classes: Legal, Social , and Technical.

[1]    LEGAL
[1.1]    Citizenship
Would a Hatfield Type Android be a citizen? Petitioning for citizenship, as the process exists now as of , requires or assumes the petitioner to be a citizen of another country. An android is not "born" in the sense of the word, so a "birth certificate" is not applicable.

Perhaps Title 1, General Provisions, or Title 8, Aliens and Nationality, United States Code has the answer.look under key words: Citizenship or dependency. Citizenship by birthright should be able to be extended to an android being made within this country.

[1.2]    Dependency
Dependency and Citizenship are tightly coupled. That is, a dependent of a citizen is usually also a citizen. Perhaps petitioning a district court to establish citizenship and dependency for an android would solve the problem.

[1.3]    Will provisions
Once citizenship and dependency are established, an android should be able to be a beneficiary in a will or a trust.

Of course, confer with a practicing attorney-at-law for current and local effects of statutes and codes.

[2]    SOCIAL
Many of these items should be the same as a human.
[2.1]    Wardrobe (and Fashion)
There have been certain android clothing needs identified (previously ; elsewhere) because they are androids. Although clothing may not be needed for warmth and protection, it is still required by societal grace and modesty expectations; partially for the same reasons mannequins are dressed. In general, androids or dolldroids have the same duty to fashion as a similar, natural born human being.

"A clothing designer contends that women least likely to get compliments on her apparel is the one in the green dress." [Boyd, 28 May 1990.] Of course, Molloy should be consulted when a professional image matters.

[2.2]    Cosmetics
Presumably, androids will not have a need for cosmetics in the normal sense. Feminine androids should have the desired affectations built-in. However, as any woman knows, evening or stage makeup is more striking than office makeup: Therefore, a feminine android should be created with the appearance of office or day makeup and be able to add makeup like a woman for stage or evening as needed.

[2.3]    Rest or recharge area ("bedroom")
Humans have a boudoir so androids can have a recumbent recharge facility. This place can be to suitable taste.

[2.4]    Personal items
Androids should have comparable personal items to humans in addition to clothing.

[2.5]    Emotion
The six basic emotions are: "Happiness, sadness, anger, disgust, surprise, and fear." [Boyd, 3 Sept. 1990.]

[2.6]    Grace and poise
Behavior is a part of grace and poise. The `"difference between a girl and a woman," writes a grandmother, "is the girl is delighted with the gift and the woman is delighted with the giver."' [Boyd, 13 Nov. 1989]

[3]    TECHNICAL
These items are for the technical support so that an HTA can be able to perform as a human.
[3.1]    Recharge facility.
This assumes that an HTA has batteries that run down during the normal course of operations. The first generations could have power connectors in orifices that humans deem most suitable for elimination. Next, inductive coupling of electrical energy would eliminate the distasteful nature of the previous method. An inductive charging blanket could also be a personal item and thus usable near any outlet.

[3.2]

Rectus femoris of the outermost muscles and fascia of the middle layer of human muscles for androids [Gray, p. 421; Alexander, p. 59] is the major muscle of the front of the thigh. It connects to "the anterior inferior spinous process of the ilium;" at the upper end. Its tendon "is inserted into the patella in common with the Vasti and Crureus."

This muscle, according to Gray, has two purposes: One is to assist the psoas and iliacus support the trunk and pelvis on the femur. The other is to flex the thigh with respect to the pelvis.

Ribs are a class of flat bones of the torso. Other notes regarding precision and appearance apply here also. Their shape suggest that bending is an important operation. Likewise, their size range suggest that this forming process should be satisfactory although bending a thermoplastic is more suitable.

The innermost muscles and fascia of and around human ribs are described in many of Gray's Anatomy sections. Related articulations and ac tuations for androids are described within their most applicable section.

Notice that any discussion of an ac tuator affecting a rib must consider the fact that androids may not have all human equivalent skeletal elements. Some of the human rib pairs may not be part of your android's frame.

Note that the human second, fourth, and fifth pair of ribs currently may be omitted. However, retaining these ribs will provide more support for the scapula. Future generations (or specially identified shreds) of Hatfield Type Androids may become more human-like with a complete (or more so) skeleton.

Naturally, since androids are not "grown" with this technology, bones fused in human adults from the approximately 200 possible, can be one finished component. This means that discrete parts to make the finished skeletal element or frame part may resemble un-fused human bones such as in the skull or pelvic girdle.

All of this does not mean that there is not some tissue between the ribs. The androtic mechanical purposes of inter-rib muscles are undefined for this generation. Therefore, the tissues will be a fascia.

This applies to all layers; the three main layers pertinent to the Hatfield Type Androids. There does not need to be a "Ribs" section in any of these following layers unless there is a marked reason to make an exception.

Hopefully, there is little need for improvement or revision in this topic or of between the borders of the ribs. If the subsequent layers actually need a Ribs section, then they should have one.
